Bicycling Advocacy Group Malta

Why should one cycle on Malta

Malta is the EU state with the worst infrastructure for cycling, it is hilly, and, often, it is hot; yet we advocate cycling. Are we out of our minds? We obviously think not, in fact, we think that cycling should be encouraged. Think about the following quote:

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes in The Sign of the Four

Malta suffers from the same problems many other younger EU members are also confronted with:

 -bad air quality
 -problems in traffic flow
 -high rates of obesity

These could be (partly) solved by better public transport maybe even including a light-rail system. For the time being, these are, however, impossible options. Buses are on the road, and as long as the roads are congested, buses will not be reliable. A light-rail system may or may not be a good idea (we have absolutely no opinion on that), but is rather impossible to be realized within less than a decade. If you do not want to wait that long, cycling is your solution. Cycling, however improbable, just takes you getting on a bike. Many do it, so it is not impossible, only the least improbable solution to the challenges Malta is facing.
